Nightlatches and the associated Rim cylinders, although produced by many manufactures are commonly referred to as ‘yale’ locks. These locks range from the most basic types to heavy duty models which can meet insurance standards.

The basic type lock is perfectly adequate if the door is also fitted with a B.S. 5 lever mortice lock. However if this is not the case then we would always advise either to have a mortice lock fitted, or to upgrade the nightlatch and Rim cylinder to BS 3621 standard.
