There is also a cafe where you can stop off for light refreshments, or enjoy a picnic at one of the tables nearby. Children can also enjoy the adventure playground and wildlife garden, as well as seeing animals down at the farm for more enjoyment.

Saltwell Park, Gateshead

Steeped in history, Saltwell Park is also a good place to go for a walk with the family as there is plenty to see and do. The park dates back to 1876 and sits on 55 acres, featuring ornamental and woodland gardens, boating lake, sports facilities, bowling greens, play areas, animal house, maze, education centre and the beautiful Victorian Saltwell Towers. So your children will definitely not get bored as there is more than enough to keep a rambling family discovering delights for the whole length of a sunny afternoon.

Riverside Park, Chester-le-Street
